A DAY IN BRISTOL

We were a bit tired ( this is getting to be a familar tune) so we decided to take it easy and just spend the day in the watershed area of Bristol.  After finding a place for lunch ( also a familiar tune) we decided to take a little boat tour down the Avon.  Anything to get off our feet!  It was a pleasant trip and although I wouoldn't say the harbor area was particularly attractive the luxury apartments lining the River were numerous.

The vessel below was at one time the longest passenger ship in the world (1845 to 1854).  She was designed by Isambard  Kingfom Brunel for the Great Western Steamship Company's transatlantic service between Bristol and New York.  She was the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic which she did in 1845 in 14 days.  When launched  in 1843, Great Britian was by far the largesst vessel afloat.  However , her protracted construction and high cost left her owners in a difficult financial position and they were forced out of business.  It was sold for salvage and repaired.  The ship carried thousand of immigrants to Australia until converted to sail in 1881.  Three years later, she was retired to the Falkland Islands, where she was used as a warehouse, quarantine ship and coal hulk until scuttled in 1937.  In 1970 the Great Britain was returned to the Bristol dry dock where she was built.  She is now an award-winning visitor attraction and museum ship in Bristol Harbor.

I am due for color next time I get my hair done - what do you think?  Me?  You see it a lot on the young people but why shoulld they have all the glamour?

A few more luxury apartments.  Por JoAnne doesn't seem to be enjoying the trip.

It was a nice relaxing day and we went back to the apartment faily early, put our weary feet up and called it a night.
