MORE IN AMSTERDAM

There's a lot of work going on at our residence.  We have scaffolding up and the building is being reroofed.  I will say they have worked awfully fast.

When we came home yesterday the bin and sidewalk had all been cleaned up and carted away.

Yesterday we went to the Hermitage Museum here in Amserdam. It is the largest satellite of the Hermitage.  They  do not have any permanent collections but get exhibits from the Hermitage.  This exhibit that we went to see was "Dining with the Tsars".

The building that now houses the  Museum opened in 1682 as a retirement home for "elderly" ( that was 50 and over) under the name in English :Deanery Home for Old Women).  ( Wouldn't you just to tell someone you live in the home for old women?)  In the 1990's the owners determined it was inadequate to meet the needs of its residents and was offered to the City of Amsterdam.  The last resident left in 2007 and in 2009 the Dutch Queen Beatrix and Russian President Dimitry Medvedev opened the museum.

Behind all this what looks like glitter tables are set with the various china of the Imperial Family

A look into the personalities of the Romanov members.

Next is a portrait of each with their unique set of China.

A woman after my own heart.  I love dishes too!

In this next bit of info you all know , because you've been following my blog which is filled with important and factual information, that the Winter Palace is part of what is now called the Hermitage and you have all seen pictures of it on this informative site.

I thought the following was an interesting little tidbit.  Who would have thought?

What a great recipe.I almost hate to share.

Finally the China!

The Order from St. George Service.

The Green Frog Service.

I was ready to hop over the barriers to straighten out those candles.  Catherine would have been so upset to see this display.

Unfortunately there were no women standing guard in these rooms  or there would not have been all these candles askew.  Would drive any woman crazy!

I guess if it was good enoughfor the Czars it was good enough for Stalin.
