HELSINKI CONTINUES

We got up the next morning and again enjoyed a fabulous breakfast in the dining room.
All the breakfasts have been included in our trip.  After breakfast we headed to the harbor because we were going to take the sigihseeing boat around the Helsinki archipelago.  It was rather brisk so once seated on the boat in the harbor I decided I'd better run to the market and see if i could find a scarf.  I had come prepared with a hat but since I was suffering from a sore throat and such I thought I'd be smart.  Doesn't happen too often.

I found this cute hand made scarf at a little stand not too far from the boat and manned by two darling " little old ladies" -  probably my age :). MMMMMM - gets to me wondering - do you suppose someone might be saying that about me.

The tour goes an hour and a half and includes views of the beautiful Helsinki shoreline, sights of the Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress, Helsinki zoo , the impressive fleet of icebreakers and of course Defero Canal.

This is a restaurant on one of the islands.

Looking back on the city.

The Maritime Fortress.

There are many privately owned islands but many are owned by the state and the Finnish love to sail to the islands and camp out and enjoy the many pleasures that come from living in such a beautiful area with lots of islands and lots of water.

There are lots of camp grounds, resorts, apartments, a casino , and hotels on the islands.

You're probably thinking these are kind of boring pictures and don't fit my description at all.  Well I have to fess up I ended up going below to the cafe and warmed up and drank coffee and thaen didn't really go out on the deck until the very end of the ride.

The fleet of Icebreakers.

Coming back to the city.

After returning we just walked around the city and explored.

What will we do when winter comes and we don't have any more outdoor eating.  So sad!

We went into a little shoe store which had the most interesting collection of shoes.
Their trademark seemed to be those bunny ears.

We walked back along the harbor and than went to the hotel to wait for our cab to take us over to the other harbor where our boat The Maria, of the St. Peter Line would be waiting to take us to St. Petersburg.  Once again we would be boarding a boat and sailing overnight.

Check this out.  It couldn't be about Deliverance Creek, could it?
