LAZY WEEK

Weather's been chilly and we've been lazy so not much going on for the past week.  We continued to plan for the future.  We are getting to know all the ticket agents at Amserdam Central.  Except for some day trips or an overnight or two we have purchased all our tickets for major trips and also to get us to Avignon on November 2nd.

We did go to The Eye one day to visit the exhibits.  If you recall from a previous blog that is the Amsterdam Film Institute.

They had an exhibit on dirctor David Cronenberg who acquired cult status with his idiosyncratic films about the relationship between body, mind, technology and mass media.  Highights included the wierd and wonderful special effects items from his films together with bizarre props, set photo's and original costumes.   Some of his movies include Shivers (1975) and Rabid (1977) and moroe current films like Crash (1996) Spider (2002) and A history of Violence (2005).  They have three full length feature films showing at all times in the exhibit.  David Cronenberg also did The Fly (1986) - a movie I will never forget.  For years if I heard a fly buzzing around I always thought of that movie.  If you haven't seen it - don't bother, it will give you nightmares, believe me.

They have a wonderful exhibit downstairs which we enjoyed and will definitely have to go back to spend more time.  We did go into one of the 6  cubicles which is equipped with head sets and seats and we really didn't know what we were doing but we started to scroll and realized you could view any number of movies.  So we selected a Dutch movie called Dakota.  As the movie started and the credits started to run Sharon thought she say the name of the owner of the loft that we are currently staying in.  We reran it and we were almost sure it was.  I wrote to Theo and he confirmed that it had been one of the first films he worked on in 1974.  How's that for a coincidence.  There must have been a thousand films we could have chosen.

By the time we finished the exhibit it was dinner time and they have a lovely restaurant there so we stayed and had a nice meal and enjoyed a beautiful view of the water and Amsterdam Central.

Not great pictures but it was pleasant to sit outside and just enjoy the view and talk to some very nice people that were seated next to us.

We caught the ferry back and called it a day.  That's the train station ahead

Tomorrow we leave for Brussels to view the Flower Carpet and explore the city a bit.  We should be blogging.  Home on Saturday until the 23rd when we will be heading to Scandinavia so the keys should be flying on our iPads for the next few weeks.  Hope you'll follow us on our journey.
